A soft, gently smoky mezcal. The easiest way for tequila drinkers to try mezcal.
We stock Casamigos Mezcal because it's mezcal with the edges taken off. Light smoke, sweet agave and very smooth, so it's a great first mezcal and a lovely margarita. If you enjoy it, move on to Del Maguey Vida or QuiQuiRiQui for a more traditional mezcal.
Tastes like: light smoke, sweet agave, citrus and a hint of herbs.
How to drink it:
- Mezcal margarita: 50ml Casamigos Mezcal, 25ml fresh lime juice and 15ml agave syrup, shaken with ice, with a chilli-salt rim
- Mezcal and tonic: 50ml over ice, topped with tonic and an orange slice
- Neat, slightly chilled

For the agave nerds
- Made by: A fourth-generation family of mezcaleros in Oaxaca, for Casamigos.
- Agave: 100% Espadín agave, hand-selected.
- Cooking and extraction: Roasted for 4 to 6 days in earth pits lined with volcanic or river rock, then crushed with a traditional tahona wheel.
- Fermentation: 6 to 8 days, depending on the season.
- Still: Distilled twice in covered copper pot stills.
- Ageing: Unaged.
Why it tastes like this: The smoke comes from roasting the agave in a rock-lined pit in the ground. Being unaged keeps it fresh and green.
