The celebration tequila. Don Julio 1942 is rich, smooth and instantly recognisable.

We stock 1942 because it's the bottle people want at a birthday, a wedding or a big night. Rich caramel and chocolate, very smooth, and it comes in that tall bottle everyone knows. It's one of our most visited pages for a reason, and we keep our price as sharp as we can.

Tastes like: caramel, milk chocolate, vanilla, roasted agave and warm oak.

How to drink it:

  • Neat: pour 35ml of Don Julio 1942 into a tumbler, let it sit for a minute, then add a drop of water if you like
  • With a single ice cube
  • As the celebration toast, served in small glasses

For the agave nerds
  • Made by: La Primavera distillery, founded by Don Julio González in 1942 in the highlands of Jalisco.
  • Agave: 100% Blue Weber agave, harvested at 5 to 7 years old.
  • Cooking and extraction: Piñas steamed in traditional masonry ovens for about 48 hours, then milled to release the sweet juice.
  • Fermentation: A house yeast strain, for about 26 hours.
  • Still: Double distilled in stainless steel pot stills with copper.
  • Ageing: At least 2 years in ex-bourbon American white oak casks, made in small batches. Named for the year Don Julio González started making tequila.

Why it tastes like this: Steaming the agave slowly in masonry ovens keeps it sweet and clean. The longer a bottle sits in ex-bourbon oak, the more vanilla, caramel and toasted wood it picks up.
