The original XO cognac. Deep, spicy and a classic luxury gift.

We stock Hennessy XO because it's the benchmark XO and one of our top online sellers. Dark chocolate, spice and dried fruit. A proper celebration bottle. It's the bottle to mark a big milestone, and the shape is instantly recognisable.

Tastes like: dark chocolate, black pepper, dried fruit and cinnamon.

How to drink it:

  • Neat: pour 35ml of Hennessy XO into a tumbler, let it sit for a minute, then add a drop of water if you like
  • With a single ice cube
  • After dinner, with dark chocolate

For the cognac nerds
  • Made from: Ugni Blanc grapes from the Cognac region, which is divided into six crus.
  • Still: Double distilled in traditional Charentais copper stills. Only the heart of the second run is kept.
  • Selection: The Hennessy Tasting Committee meets every day at 11am to choose or reject eaux-de-vie.
  • People: Master Blender Renaud Fillioux de Gironde, the eighth generation of the Fillioux family to blend for Hennessy.
  • Ageing: Eaux-de-vie aged at length in oak barrels.
  • History: Created by Maurice Hennessy in 1870 for friends, and one of the first cognacs called XO.

Why it tastes like this: Cognac gets its fruit from the grapes and the copper stills, and its vanilla and spice from years in oak. The blender's job is to make it taste the same every year.
