Yamazaki is where Japanese whisky started, so it's the single malt we point people to first. Suntory ages it in wine casks, which gives it a soft sweetness and a light red-fruit character. Put it next to Hakushu and you'll taste how different two Suntory single malts can be.
Tastes like: mild and delicately sweet, with hints of fresh red fruit.
How to drink it:
- Neat: 35ml in a tumbler, left for a minute, then a drop of water if you like
- Over one large ice cube
- Highball: 50ml over lots of ice, topped with cold soda water
