Mount Gay Silver Rum, 70cl
- White
- Barbados
- 70cl
- Clean & crisp
A light, clean Barbados white rum from the island's oldest rum brand.
We stock Mount Gay Silver because it's a reliable mixing rum with real Barbados character. It's light enough for a mojito but has more flavour than most white rums at this price. It's a great bottle to keep in for summer cocktails, and it's crisp enough to sit in a highball with just soda and lime.
Tastes like: light banana, vanilla and a crisp, dry finish.
How to drink it:
- Daiquiri: 50ml Mount Gay Silver, 25ml fresh lime juice and 15ml sugar syrup, shaken with ice and strained into a chilled glass
- Highball: 50ml Mount Gay Silver over ice, topped with soda, a squeeze of lime and a sprig of mint
- Rum punch: 50ml Mount Gay Silver, 100ml pineapple juice, 25ml lime juice, a dash of grenadine and a pinch of grated nutmeg, over plenty of ice

For the rum nerds
- Made by: Mount Gay, at the northern tip of Barbados in the parish of St Lucy, where the deep well on the estate was first dug in 1703.
- Made from: Barbadian and Caribbean sugar cane, refined into molasses.
- Water: Drawn from coral caverns hundreds of feet underground, filtered by the island itself.
- Fermentation: For the column still rum, a closed fermentation with Mount Gay's own heirloom yeast. For the pot still rum, an open-air fermentation, where breezes carry in wild yeasts.
- Still: A traditional column still and a double retort copper pot still.
- Ageing: A blend: the copper pot still rum is aged for 2 years in American whiskey casks, and the column still rum is unaged.
Why it tastes like this: The double retort pot still gives the heavier, fruitier rum, and the column still gives the lighter one. Blending the two, then ageing in ex-whiskey casks, is what gives Barbados rum its balance of fruit, banana and vanilla.
